The World Knowledge Dialogue Young Scientists Programme

Young scientists discuss with Julia Higgins

Within the context of the “Young Scientists Programme”, a substantial number of travel grants and reduced registration fees are available to promising young researchers and educators in all disciplines. The recipients will receive mentoring from senior scientists and will be expected to carry out such tasks as:

  • leading small discussion groups within the different workshops;
  • supporting the WKD 2008 Scientist in Residence, Ed Wilson, in his analysis and synthesising tasks (reports on discussions, analysis of the dialogue, preparation of final statement,...) ;
  • Provision of online reports and comments (blogs, dialogue analysis,...)

“Young Scientists” attending the 2008 World Knowledge Dialogue Symposium are eligible for reimbursement of travel costs (overseas, up to 1'000 CHF, Europe, up to 500 CHF) and will be charged a reduced registration fee of 500 CHF. Applicants to the Young Scientist Programme from Swiss Institutions are not eligible for reimbursement of travel costs, but will be charged a registration fee of only 200 CHF. (300 CHF for inscriptions made after 1st June).

To be eligible for selection, applicants must be be less then 42 years old and should submit a short statement (200-400 words) that summarises their ongoing or recently submitted research projects, and elaborates on their concept of dialogue between natural sciences and humanities.
